Eagerly anticipated

It came in the mail today! I feel a coffee and caramel Bailey's coming on...

A visit from the delivery fairy!

Yes, I have my own personal delivery fairy. I have to admit she is wonderful.

Look what she brought me! (I must have been really good.)

These are the cards from the monthly card exchange group. This months' theme was 'Seen at the Zoo".

I'm positive the rest of the group isn't quite convinced that I actually exist. I've never been to an exchange in person!

As promised, here is it is. Isn't it cute?

Day of Many Mini's

It was an excellent day!

I have to admit I was very nervous to even enter the building today. Yup, that's me - fraidy cat to the very core.

I was lucky enough to get a ride to the Neilson Park Creative Centre. I had just mustered enough courage to exit the car (plus I was being booted out - I had already negotiated 10 extra minutes - lol.) when another car pulled up beside us. I glanced over and it was Susan! It immediately brightened my day.

I was to shy to tell Susan I had signed up for her course. I located the class via a google search. I didn't want her to get the wrong impression. (Oh, no here comes 'stalker' girl....)

My first challenge of the day? Finding the coffee. Must find sweet, coffee. I pass a room with a gaggle of women and the enticing scent of coffee. Should I just casually walk in and sneak a cup? I finally decide it must be for us. The clincher? The badges around everyone else neck were just like mine...

Off to my classroom to secure and prep my workspace as I casually sip my coffee. I discover that my brand new Teflon coated scissors barely slice through a plastic garbage bag. Seeing my struggle one of the women in my class chirped "My dollar store scissors are working great!".

I'm shyly scanning the room to check out my instructor and fellow workshoppers. I'm intrigued that a guy is in our class - it usually just women.

Workshop A begins and as Ruth speaks I realize that I'm becoming anxious about my lack of 'artistic - ness'. This is new territory for me. I am mystified by the folded pen tool we have been given.

How am I going to pull this off? Maybe I can just fold the 'plain' paper... No such luck. She expects us all to create! Ruth has prepared the most exquisite origami book samples for class. She pulled them apart and spread them across the table allowing us to see examples of different techniques. I regret that I didn't bring my camera. They were lovely to look at.

Will post more soon. Very tired. I promise more soon.

Supply list update!

It's a good thing I checked my spam folder or I would have missed the updated class supply list.

I came completely unprepared for a class once and it certainly diminished the experience for me.

I know, I know I should be in bed! Early day tomorrow!

Can't hardly wait.

Creative block

I'd hoped this year to create a little each day and if not at least each week.

I know I gave myself an out. I figured I'd be easier on myself if I did.

I have block right now.

It is very annoying.

Sanity break

I must express my thanks to anyone who has ever taken care of me when I've been sick.

I now know they had the patience of a saint.

My son is very ill this week and he is miserable. So am I.

Is this what I'm like when I'm sick?

It's not a pretty picture.

Countdown has started!

Looking forward to this day very much. I am in Strand One with Ruth Booth and Susan Williamson (Yay!).

Morning session A: Ruth Booth - The Gestural Stroke
I am nervous about this session. I'll actually have to do something new and people might see!
Morning Session B: Susan Williamson - Collage and the ATC
I have to admit the middle session is the reason I signed up for this strand.
Afternoon Session: Ruth Booth - The Origami Pocket Book
I can handle this, I recall doing this as a child. I liked making cranes but I don't think I could do one now! If I recall this was very relaxing activity for me.

What kind of card to make? Part 2

I caved.

I purchased an animal stamp. Three actually. I let my son pick them out. I'm mystified as to why he was adamant about not getting the giraffe.

Here is my card.

And here is my little hidden 'zoo'

Not a good day to be a TTC employee

What a day! I wish I was saying it in a good way.

I took what should have been a quick trip. It took 3 1/2 hours.

I have to admit that I could have shaved off almost an hour if I hadn't taken pity on a poor man who was hopelessly lost. Proving that no good deed goes unpunished.

If I understood him - his name was Choosaun. (Apologies for the spelling). I think he had been going in circles because he was confused by the all the trains at Museum station. Three directions on one track and southbound Y/U trains on the other track. I imagine if you didn't speak English it was confusing.

I'm here to tell you the TCC instructions stunk. The staff were very patient and polite even though you could tell they were extremely stressed. They were grouchy to each other though!

Museum station was a zoo. I tell you it was a little disconcerting to hear a different answer from everyone. The train driver (his trains sign), the conductor, the TTC guy on the platform and the PA system all providing contradictory information. Add confused, frustrated and angry riders. Quite a volatile combination.

There were a least three problems that I could identify.

1. Train switch problem (result of the construction detour) that slowed down and eventually caused a service disruption between Ossington and Broadview.

2. To few shuttle buses to accommodate the exodus of subway patrons (Six buses passed us before we were able to get on). Someone actually reached out and pushed my bum onto the bus - I kid you not. Thanks I think. Don't forget I still had the 'lost' guy with me (he was in front of me and not the 'pusher'). And finally our bus driver relied on her passengers for directions to Broadview station.

3. A near riot at Broadview station. There must have been seven fire trucks, who knows how many police cars, paramedics and of course the media. The queue of riders waiting to get back onto the subway platform was backed up to the collectors level. Congestion indeed.

I like to thank a sweet girl named Amanda for translating (Cantonese - made even more challenging because they did speak the same dialect) and making sure that 'Choosaun' reached his destination. I was really touched because I probably would have taken him myself if she hadn't offered. I hope you ace your accounting exam tomorrow Amanda. p.s. Take the street car...

Late for day care pick up

I was a bad mommy today. I was late picking up my son. A dollar a minute. Ouch.

What kind of card to make?

I had misgivings about this month's theme. I signed up anyhow. I considered it a challenge.

I don't have any animal stamps. I don't need any animal stamps.

Dilemma.

Still here

I have just been doing off line stuff and my better half is semi-addicted to an online game. If I don't snag the computer quick - its gone!

I miss posting.

Just what I like

My class tonight was just what I needed. I had a great time. A nice casual, relaxed atmosphere. I got permanent red ink on my light blue blouse. I swear I need an apron for any class. I even gave myself homework. Which I will post by the end of the week. You can hold me to it.

A little package was waiting at the store for me. Thanks Martha!

I test drove (OK showed off) my arty! My RED arty. More importantly, I remembered to remove it before I threw the cup away. I would be digging in the garbage can to retrieve it - you can be certain of that!

5000 year old embrace

An amazing image.

Art Seer

I'll have to take his word for it. My son decided to paint at the drop-in this morning.

Excitedly telling me each animal as he painted.

"I paint a giraffe mommy!"

"I paint a snake mommy!"

"Another page mommy!"

He saw a giraffe, a gorilla, a donkey, a tiger, a cow, a horse and several snakes.

Each subsequent animal layered over the prior one.

Oh to be a seer too.

Transparent Art

I am eagerly awaiting my class at BizzyB on Monday! The instructor is Marissa Decepida-Wong

Here's her class description:
Discover the world of Transparent Art also known as acetate in artwork. This is one of the hottest trends in papercarfts, scrapbooking and mixed media art. In this workshop, you will learn how to use transparent art in your cards, collages, jewellery, altered books & scrapbook page by incorporating the transparencies with stamped images, painted backgrounds, sewing & cutting, etc. Turn something simple into a work of art!

I hope there are handouts - I wouldn't want to forget everything I'll learn on Monday.

Can't hardly wait.

Aaaaaaaaaah bliss at ATC Night

It was over before I got there. *sigh*

Thankfully a few kind souls reserved some of their ATC's for June and I! Apparently it was a whirlwind trading session tonight.

Thank you, Martha, Sarah, Daniza, Susan V., Myrna, Marissa, Cheryl and Susan W.!

I have a couple of welcomes - which I will separate for clarity.

Welcome Susan! I was thrilled that you came to the trading session. I can't wait to see what you come up with for next month.

A warm welcome to Cheryl too. She made her very first ATC - a very lovely quilled one.

As an added bonus, I got to see Carmi too. I'm glad I arrived exactly when I did or I would have missed her. Thanks for delivery service and the gift. I love it! You are so sweet.

Sad news that Martha won't be able to attend the next session. Boo. I'm making an ATC for you anyway!

Jacqui was MIA. We missed her.

I'll be at the next one - just a little late again!

Friday, February 09, 2007

I'm a winner!

I'm so excited. I signed up and I won!!!!!!

Look here to see. I don't even have to wait 'cos I'll see her tonight!

*happy dance* (OK, so the dance wasn't pretty - cover your eyes next time...;)

My transit adventure ...

I wasn't able to make it to the courier office to send the card exchange items out. I decided to do it today.

What an eye opener. They want serious money to deliver on the same day (if they do it at all).
Like about $150.00 dollars more than I was willing to spend.

So I started to investigate the alternatives. Imagine if you will...

dialing phone, ringing commences

"Go Transit, xxxxx speaking. How can I help you?"

"Yes, hello. My name is yyyyy. I was wondering if you could help me. I need to go to Bolton today."

"We only have limited service to Bolton on weekdays."

"Oh, uhm. Thanks."

click

Similar conversations with Greyhound, TTC, Go Transit (yes, again) and finally York Region Transit.

"YRT, xxxxx speaking. How can I help you?"

"Yes, hello. My name is yyyyy. I was wondering if you could help me. How close to Bolton can you get me today?"

"Oh, uhm. How close to Bolton?"

"Yes, I need to get there today. I'd like to get as close as possible then call a cab for the remainder of the trip."

The lady at York Transit was exceptionally helpful.

It took me five hours.

I kept my commitment, my cards are on time and I am happy. (if slightly bus sick)

Friday, February 02, 2007

I've always wondered ...

what I'd do when my son gets sick. I mean really sick. Erupting sick.

Apparently nothing.

I kind of just stared and thought "Well, we aren't stopping to get sour cream for dinner now."

Poor guy.

Unsuccessfully suppressing my gag reflex, I cleaned him (and surrounding area) up as best I could, bundled him up tight, scooped up his sobbing self into my arms and headed home.

Thursday, February 01, 2007

Phew! Monthly card exchange

is finished! Yay, me.

I just need to get these in the mail because I can't go again.

Superbowl Sunday. Who cares about football anyhow. *grump*

I forgot to scan one to share!

* updated on February 10*

I got my cards back - they are wonderful! This was my contribution.

Grumpy drivers

The King and Dundas streetcar drivers are cranky lately. Really cranky.

We have several options to catch the streetcar home each night.

1. Last northbound stop before the subway station
2. First southbound stop out of the station (after 6 PM only)
3. From the streetcar platform inside the station

I have a metro pass - so it's really all the same option.

Add a determined, hungry and possibly grumpy toddler. Suddenly the first available streetcar is most attractive.

I have my son walk up the street car steps as much as possible. Most drivers are very unhappy about this. They have even angrily said 'Carry him up!' .

Take tonight for example.

As we boarded (using option 1) the street car the driver actually exhaled air between his teeth (you know the sound when someone feels put out) and then he grunted when I showed him my pass. Lovely.

We took our seats and settled in for the ride home.

I can feel that someone is behind me. I turn slightly to verify that it is the driver. Yup, it's him - sour look intact.

"Exactly what are you doing?" he asks.

"We are headed southbound. It's OK I have a metropass." I reply.

"Actually I didn't see your pass when you got on." he challenges.

"No problem sir." I reach into my pocket and pull out my metropass.

"The car in front of me is leaving right away."

"That's fine. We'll read."

"Why are you doing this?" he asks.

"Because it's much easier for me with a toddler."

I don't understand his attitude and objection to us being on his streetcar.

I make every effort to be a polite as possible in front of my son. I want to set a good example. I don't want to be one of those "do as I say but not as I do" parents. Also he is a sponge. If I make one tiny slip up - he's sure to repeat whatever I said. He still says 'little bugger' and that was months ago.

macaroni & cheese

My sweetie makes the best macaroni and cheese. I figure this is legitimate art related post, because, making delicious food is an art.

We asked our son what he wanted for supper tomorrow. A big smile spread across his face and he yelled "Macaroni and cheese!"

I couldn't agree more.

It wasn't scary at all

Silly me. They didn't even bite.

I get so worked up about new situations. I had no luck finding the acrylic paint * eye roll *. Soooooo I bought some more on my way there.

I was to shy to actually work on my book. All those eyes would have freaked me out for sure. I was fun to participate (OK, talk with - there wasn't much work going on!) in a group of talented women. I'm starting to 'get' that you can't really make a mistake. Which is quite different from not liking what you have done. They were synonymous in my mind before.

Mary Ambrose did an altered book demo with the focus on Windows and Portals which I enjoyed very much.

I am going to work in my new book at least once each week until I can attend another ABC meeting.

Typical reaction

for me.

I am finally able to attend a session of the Altered Book Club (ABC).

I have my book ready, bag packed (except for my acrylic paint - which is somewhere!) and I am irrationally nervous.

What fun! I've been tagged

by Carmi to reveal five little known things about me. My train trip to London gave me time to consider this.

Here goes!

1. I shaved my head for charity. In November. Man oh man it was COLD!

2. I refused to purchase furniture for almost 10 years because I was moving back West at 'anytime'. I still consider myself a westerner.

3. I'm passionate about the defence of the romance novel. It ticks me off when people look down on the genre. Romance fiction comprises 53.3% of ALL paperback fiction sold in North America. I even appeared on national TV - although even now I can only peek through my fingers to watch it.

4. I have a secret desire to be a superhero. ohmygoshi'msoembarrassednow (not so secret anymore)

5. I used to live with five guys. I was greatly amused by peoples' reaction once they found this out.
Surprise ... wait for it ...
Doubt and/or disbelief (as they not so subtly eyed me) ...wait for it ...
Disapproval (apparently they believed I was a very naughty girl)

I tag June, Marissa, Jenni, Jacqui and Caroline. If you don't have a blog just post in the comments section.

Art snobbery?

I find an art supply store a little bit overwhelming.

heavy body acrylic fluid acrylics coloured pencils pastels gel medium watercolour oil alkyds gouache cold pressed palettes brayers gesso solvents varnish gloss matte satin finish GAC 400 iridescent encaustic paper weights mixing medium walls of brushes palette paper canvas

It just sort of washes right over me. Like a tidal wave.

This time I brought a book with me to show the staff exactly what I was looking for. Because people who work in art stores assume you know what they are talking about.

One staff member commented that the artist made some "very cool" stuff. He asked me if the book was from the library. I said no, but that it likely would be as the artist, Claudine Hellmuth, is well known.

Then he turned to the other staff member and said, "Even though it's not real art".

Huh?

What exactly is 'real' art?

Monday, January 15, 2007

I guess it just wasn't for me

I had only glanced through a friend's copy. That glance made me believe it was going to be a perfect addition to my library.

I was wrong.

Once I actually sat down with 'Alphabetica', I discovered that it is essentially fluff. Very prettily wrapped fluff. Gorgeous photographs, lots of inspiration, VERY little instructional information. The Masters: Artist Workshops section was especially disappointing.

I'm confident that I will find a good home for it. Someone else will love it.

No thank you

I forgot to mention at the last ATC night (we need a name for our group!) that they tried to make me do it. I swear, I heard Martha's book scream.

It was unsuccessful I might add.

I'm gonna just have to get over myself.

My dictionaries await.

crayon fun

I'm raiding my son's crayon stash. Shhhh. Don't tell.

I'd better not do this in front of him. He's very possessive of his things right now. Sadly, he probably got that from me. ;)

I'll update this post with a background later tonight.

ATC Night

These ladies bring joy into my life.

Daniza, Marissa, Martha, Diana, Jacqui, Susan and Myrna were trading tonight. I love each card I received. Mine, mine, mine!!!

I always forget to ask if I can publish the cards I receive!! Darn it. I know its okay for some but I would prefer permission from all.

There was a dramatic reading of 'Little Women' by Martha. Hot Little Women indeed.

Marissa demonstrated several techniques, my favorite was crayon resist with a Fiskars texture plate. I gotta remember how to do that!

My submission for this month was 'Snow Queen'.

Due Date: 12JAN07

A would be thief

While shopping today a salesgirl kindly offered me a free calendar. I declined because I wasn't completed my shopping.

"If you change your mind they are just over there". She said.

"Thank you. I might just get one when I'm done." I replied. As I was speaking I glanced over and thought to myself that they were nice calendars to be giving away. Maybe I would get one. Away I wandered in search of what I had come for.

Happily I was able to find my item, I brought it to the cash and paid.

Again the cashier urged me to take a free calendar. "Take as many as you like".

"Really? Are you sure? As many as I want?" I asked doubtfully. I selected two and left the store.

I hear a voice behind me.

"Excuse me, Ma'am. The cashier believes she forgot to cash out those calendars for you."

I turned back perplexed. I actually looked behind me. He couldn't possibly be speaking to me.

"No, I don't think so. I only bought one item today. The calendars were free. The cashier said so."

He anxiously asked me to come back into the store. I complied. Really that should have been a clue.

I walked back over to the cash. Now all the staff are staring at me. Expectantly. I gesture to the display of calendars and the sign. I open my mouth but nothing comes out. Not right away. My brain is just now connecting the dots.

The free calendars are rolled up in a basket above the display of calendars for sale. And I took two. Mortification.

"Oooooooooooh, those are the free calendars. I thought you meant these ones." It sounds lame even to me.

I look beseechingly at the cashier. "That's why I asked you again. I'm sorry..."

There is only one thing to do. I take them out of the bag and place them back on the display shelf. Why can't the floor just open up and swallow me?

I suppress the urge to flee and with my head down I apologize all the way out the door.

As I exit I hear the cashier say, "It's okay, everything is alright now".

I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

ATCs I made this week

I like some but not others.

Reprieve

I'm trying to work up the nerve.

It's just sitting there innocently.

It has no idea what I have planned. 'It' being the book I am planning to cut up. For words.

I don't think I can do it.

Boxed mini albums

I made these for my son's daycare teachers.

I hope they like them.

A N T I C I P A T I O N

I could hardly wait to get home today. I knew they were here.

BUT I promised my son that we would go for a subway ride tonight. I didn't get home until after 8PM, by that time I forgotten about my books, I was simply grateful to be home. (it was an eventful and tantrum filled outing).

One of the books that arrived was 'Artist Trading Card Workshop' by Bernie Berlin. I am in awe. It is exquisite. I highly recommend this book. I'll have to remember to thank my aunt.

Happy birthday to my nephew!

Hey Connor sweetie!

Wishing you a special day. Love ya.

Odd that it doesn't bother me

I really thought that I would be one of those stampers who is fanatical about pristine rubber. I actually get anxious around people that must immediately clean and/or cover their ink pads.

It's oddly satisfying to see ink stains on my stamps.

Apparently I am difficult to shop for

I received six Indigo/Chapters gift cards for Christmas. lol. I likely would have received one more if I hadn't seriously hinted to my better half (OK, outright told) what I would like. Thanks hon!

I spent several hours leisurely searching the website offerings. I headed to the checkout once I decided on several selections.

It took me a few moments to figure out how to use my gift card online. I'm usually not this daft. I didn't realize that you could simply shop with a gift card instead of your credit card. As an added benefit you can immediately transfer any outstanding balance back to your gift card. The best of both worlds.

I just got an email telling me three of my items shipped. Wooo hoooo!

Tuesday, January 02, 2007

This is why I avoid new magazines

I deliberately requested magazines that I don't read for Christmas. OK, technically RSM is new - it's been a looong time since the last purchase. It's even a different size now.
  • The Stamper's Sampler
  • The Rubber Stamper
  • Cloth Paper Scissors
  • RubberStampMadness

I fell in love with Cloth Paper Scissors. It's a joy to read. I am a subscriber. I am so sad.

I feel guilty...

I didn't make any resolutions for 2007. I dislike doing it.

I bought a calendar instead. This year will be different - I might actually use it. I like the tulips.

The first thing I'm writing down is any local classes I'm interested in.

meme with a difference

I've signed up via Martha's blog and must reciprocate before I forget.

The first five people to respond to this post (via the comments section) will get some form of art made by me.

The only catch, is that if you sign up, you have to put this in your own blog as well.

I can't believe that our Christmas holiday is almost over

The week has flown by. My son has so enjoyed the time with his grandparents. He is so happy to see them each morning. I know I'm not the only one who is going to miss them.

We are going to be exhausted when we get home. We have not maintained a schedule (nor factored in the time change) at all. Uh oh indeed.

We finally made it to Candy Cane Lane and saw it via horse drawn carriage. I couldn't resist my son's excited and hopeful face. He thought the church next to us was a barn that housed all the other animals from the farm. lol. He wanted to actually ride the horse but that changed once he got closer to them. They were huge horses. It was over far to soon and he wanted to go again which resulted in a tearful ride home. I hoped to get photos, however, my camera skills are not what they could be.

Lots of blurry shots. (secretly I like some these odd & blurry shots)

Peace and goodwill to all

Merry Christmas!

Hope you are having a great time with your family and friends.

My three nephews and son are having a great time. All four are excited blurs at any given moment. lol. Luckily they stopped for a moment and I got a wonderful picture of them together. They are going to miss each other when we leave to go back to Edmonton tomorrow.

I called Daddy and Uncle at home and they are having a seafood feast for Christmas dinner. I can tell that they are missing the little guy. We will have another little 'mini' Christmas with them when we get back home.

We are going to my sister-in-law's parents house for dinner today. I'm looking forward to that. Her parents and family are very sweet.

Remember the calories don't count today...

Forget snakes on a plane...

how about a screaming toddler for the duration of the flight? Combined with a set of parents that think this behavior is oh so a*d*o*r*a*b*l*e.

We are here and having a great time with our family. My son has been a trooper about all the new places and faces.

I can't wait until Christmas morning!

ATC question

A friend called me at work to ask "what is an ATC?" I thought I'd defer to an authoritative source for that query.

I really enjoy working on ATCs. They are accessible for me. Meaning that they can be done fairly quickly and much less intimidating than a 12 x 12 layout or an entire album (shudder!).

crazy busy crazy busy crazy busy crazy busy crazy busy

preparing for our trip.

Phew. Who knew a toddler needed soooo much stuff.

I've made a list, yes I've checked it twice. (Thanks hon.)

Each time there is something new to add. I'm determined to take only ONE piece of luggage. I don't know if I understand the concept of pare down. lol.

I have ATC's to publish to keep up with the challenge - they just aren't quite completed yet. I have to attempt to watercolour. I should post the uncoloured images - just so I will feel better about being such a slacker.

I think I will pack them up and finish them at my Mom's.

darn this challenge is hard

I'd really never thought about the 12 days of Christmas before.
It's not turning out quite like I expected. What else is new?

I'm determined to complete it! It'll probably be late though...

I'm in love

with the new Bond.

I knew it would happen. Although it was embarassing in front of my better half. I don't think he was impressed.

Go see it!

Our last ATC night for 2006

I really look forward to ATC night. It's my chance to get out of the house and chat/share with some talented ladies. I did zone out for a few moments! No more drinking in the afternoon for me! I'll just have to learn to pass up the offer of free beer. lol.

I loved what everyone did for the holiday theme. Such creativity. It made me cringe even more at my own offering. Serves me right for procrastinating.

Susan shared her hand painted Christmas decorations with us. Gorgeous. She pays attention to the details. I wish I'd had a camera to get a photo of some of them. Missed opportunity.

Martha showed us a cool technique using acrylic paint, liquid medium and Kim towels. Again I would have loved a photo - although I think it would have embarrassed her terribly.

A little attention

Who knew that if I actually did things (instead of just collecting) people would actually say nice things?

I'm such a sucker for a compliment too.

It really makes my day.

I just realized that I ....

I haven't actually wrote about the card exchange that I participate in other than to say my cards are done.

Hmmmm.
I have never been able to make the actual coffee and chat. One day it will happen. I have to wait a few extra days for my cards.

I'm sure I drive June nuts with my hints to drop them by until I get them. Can I get them now? How about now? Are you coming this way? How about now? Well you get the idea. lol.

I really loved the cards made for this month's theme things that fly. I will need to scan in the images when I have a second. Here is a peek at a couple of last month's...

ebay is a dangerous place for the easily tempted

temptation, err make that Temptation.

It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of an auction. Waaaaaay to easy.
I was bidding on an item for a friend tonight. She had a DEFINITE limit. Unfortunately for her, someone wanted her auction item very much. I thought that they paid to much for a used item but that was just me.

When I set a limit it can be a bit elastic, heavily dependant on how badly I want an item. I'm also a sniper. You know the person who waits until the last 30 seconds (or less) of the auction to bid. Yup - been burned by them too.

I'm surrounded ...

by sick people.

Which pretty much means I'll be next. Since I know this is inevitable, I'd better get started on those ATC's that are due on Friday.

Gotta clear out the better half, who is watching football (yes, college - I've one of those fans) with his eyes closed.

Playing along

I've always wanted to join one of Carmi's art challenges. I had such grand plans for the ATC's in August - I even made a few.

Trouble is I'm terrible with deadlines. I missed a few, well maybe more than a few.

Announcement from her blog:

I am going to celebrate the traditional 12
Days of Christmas, by doing an
art piece everyday based on the classic song:
"On the first day of Christmas
my true love gave to me...

"Would you like to join me? I am either going
to do an ATC or a fabric altered book page... I have not decided yet.

If you want to join in, you need to send me a scan of your art everyday.

The art can be digital or a photo too!

A Partridge in a Pear Tree is due:
Midnight December 13th, and then everyday for
the next eleven pieces. (You
could skip a day if you need to.)
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven
pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids
a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden
rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!

This time I'm gonna play too.

Hack job

I'm using an x-acto knife. Only because I put my beloved Kai scissors somewhere safe.

Now people who know me, would probably give me a vaguely amused smile that I am actually working, albeit ever so s-l-o-w-l-y.

Then they might be concerned as they realize what I'm working with.

Okaay, we might have a situation here. Just put down the knife slowly. No quick movements. Slowly, slowly that's a girl. No need for you to hurt yourself.

You see I might have a bit of a reputation for being, well *ahem* clumsy. My better half doesn't trust me with any sharp implement. He knows what a knack I have for inadvertent self-maiming.

And the rubber? It's a hack job.

I might just faint...

Commission:
a fee paid to an agent or employee for transacting a piece of business or performing a service.

I'm terrified.

Yup, some people (bless their hearts) were admiring my little book about my son. Now they would like me to make books for them too. For Christmas.

Gulp.

I said YES!!!!!!

phenom class - Altered Art Mini Album

I initially had reservations about this class, I was uncertain I would accomplish anything - nevermind an entire album. I mean really, classes are just social occasions aren't they?

From the BizzyB Scrap & Stamp website:

ALTERED ART MINI ALBUM 6-10pm
GUEST INSTRUCTOR
-
CHRISTINA LAZAR-SCHULER

Create an adorable altered art-style mini album using 4x4 photos,
chipboard elements, cool stamps, funky embellishments & more.
You'll be working outside your traditional scrapbooking box - helps you focus on the
idea, image and is just really, really fun! Time is an issue for me, so any
project I can finish in an evening is a big bonus... Imagine spending an evening
making a great gift for family or friends that the will treasure for years

I don't attend many classes anymore - mostly due to time restraints. I make a special effort to attend Carmi's fabulous classes whenever I can. I do go on (and on and on) about them don't I? OMG - am I fawning?! Blech.

I now have a new instructor that I am impressed with. Her (Christina's) mini book class and new rubber stamp designs are phenomenal. (I might have just bought 1 or 2 OK 3! - that's all I'm admitting to)
If you are unable to attend one of her classes, I highly recommend purchasing the components online to make your own kit from her company Lazar StudioWERX Inc. She is very generous with her online instructions.

I actually have a little book of my son! Thank you Christina! No, it's not actually finished but I'm workin' on it.

I got out bid

It was a busy day today. Morning drop-in at SRCPC with my son. Home for lunch and settle in nap time. Kiss daddy goodbye and scurry off to Holly Jolly. Browse & buy to much stuff. Head back home (with a small detour to Tim Horton's with June) to eat dinner & get the little man ready for bed. Shower, change and head to the SRCPC annual fundraising auction. There was some fun stuff up for auction. We missed part of the live auction as someone (not me) was dawdling. I don't think we won a single thing this year. Phooey.

I'm in photo inventory H***

Really.

The good news is that we have a lot of pictures of my sweet, adorable, darling, angel son BUT at just over 1000 digital images. It's a little overwhelming. At least I know the date, time and place these were taken. I really should have been doing inventory right from the beginning.

I can't even consider the others right now. They are in a box (yes, a really BIG one) - out of sight, out of mind - with good reason.

I wonder if anyone else is a silly as me!

holly jolly sale

I love going to Carmi's Holly Jolly sale. I mark it on my calender early.

I eagerly check all the vendor tables to see what is for sale - so much to oooh and ahhh at.

I always spend to much! I was well on my way to purchasing from each vendor's table - I just ran out of time. I think this was a good thing.

This year I got there a little later than I planned. Thanks to my certainty that I didn't need to consult a map or the directions. Really it must be the only place in Toronto that the streets aren't in a grid formation.

Usually if I've been somewhere once, I can find my way back with minimal effort - quite a blow to the ego.

Thanks and hugs to Carmi for organizing another great event.

At opposite ends of the spectrum...

**** Warning ****

This is not a post for the faint of heart.

Ladies and gents - fans ready please

It's definitely a HOT alert today. You either want to be him or he makes you swoon - at least that's what I've heard.

Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever, From Russia with Love, Dr. No, Goldfinger, The Spy Who Loved Me, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, You Only Live Twice.

I read the books long before I ever saw a Bond film. I have to admit the hot factor is directly related to the films.

The first Bond film I recall seeing was Moonraker with Roger Moore. I have successively fallen for each new incarnation of Bond.

All this brouhaha because he's blond.
Pah! Let's be honest shall we? The main requirement for Bond is HOTness.

Get over the blond - it's all about hot.

Masi Oka is my other hottie.

Who knew a geek could be well so… you know. * adorable * Don't you just want to take him home? I'm having such a juvenile moment... and I haven't even started on Dean.

Ta DA!!! - ATC completed

Ta DA!!! I completed my next ATC assignment ahead of the deadline.

Due Date: 17NOV06
Theme: Monogram
Supplies used -
Paper: Bazzill
Ink: Ranger
Stamp: Hero Arts (front)
Stamp: Catslife press (back)

Status: Complete
NEXT!

I really couldn't decide what to make this time. I ultimately choose 'R' for Remembrance day.

I had several ideas rolling around the brain pan, however, this idea was the one that insisted on being done.

I tried to work on other ideas but they just wouldn't work. I hope that now this one is done they will follow - just for fun.

The theme was 'monogram'. I hope everyone likes it. You'll have to come to the meeting to see the inside...

A little WICKEDness

I've never seen the Wizard of Oz.

OK, get it out of your system. Do what ever you need to do to express your surprise, horror, disbelief, etc. Apparently this is a classic.

I'll wait.

I was graciously invited to see the musical 'Wicked' by a friend. I wasn't sure what to expect at all.

Oh, I knew the basic story, tornado, girl and dog, scarecrow, cowardly lion, tin man, wicked witch. I guess I had the mental Coles notes version.

I liked it so much I bought the soundtrack. Now I just need to get 'Popular' out of my head.

La la la la

We're gonna make

You popular

When I see depressing creatures

With unprepossessing features

I remind them on their own behalf

To think of

Celebrated heads of state or

Specially great communicators

Did they have brains or knowledge?

Don't make me laugh!

They were popular!

Please -It's all about popular!

It's not about aptitude

It's the way you're viewed

So it's very shrewd to be

Very very popular

Like me!

Oddly, I saw the movie the very next night and my first reaction was 'That's not how it happened!"

Card Swap completed for November

I'm a little bummed that I can't make it to the coffee & chat.

I'll have to package my cards off with June again... *sigh*

My first attempt at a spinner card, you can't hardly tell from the scan, but there are tiny dragonflies and stars on the lighter cardstick too.

I still think it needs something...
